The GLBenchmark database revealed a very interesting new gadget earlier this week. A brand new HTC phone that has never been heard of and has never been seen online. It is called the HTC Glacier and it has scores that will put any smartphone to shame — no matter whether it is the A4 powered iPhone 4 or HTC’s own Snapdragon powered EVO 4G.

Mobile phones are fast becoming the mini personal computers that people have always wanted t carry around. Of course, I am not discounting the iPad here but the new-age smartphones have really changed the way we access and process while on the move. A large part of this has been made possible by really powerful mobile processors. Unlike desktop processors, mobile processors need to stay power-efficient before they increase processing power. So the 1Ghz chip from Qualcomm really made waves and gave birth to a whole new line of phones. Broadcom sees Qualcomm SnapDragon’s processing power and answers it with both speed and price economy.

You know how some people have a really hard time keeping secrets? Especially if it’s a big one? Well, sometimes PR people are like that and that is how some leaks happen in the industry. So this time, a PR of the Swedish branch of the carrier 3, let the cat out of the bag by saying that they will have the HTC Bravo by 2010. And where did this happen? Why, on Facebook of course — that great place where privacy is shrinking faster than a woolen sweater in a hot wash.

HTC has successfully completed its transformation from a company that makes handsets for others to rebrand to a company that is known for simply making great handsets. Over the past one year or so, HTC handsets have really impressed the mass market.
Their knack for making really great software and hardware combos have won them many a fan in the past one year. With the launch of the HD2, they have proved that they can hold their own against the big players like Apple, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and also Nokia.

If you have been keeping an eye on the news, you will see that the netbook world is currently full of mainly two things – Android and Chrome OS. Google has officially taken over the high portability, low performance segment and made it into a stripped down wonderland of speedy booting goodness. That is of course the Chrome OS. The Android just makes for a great experience as a whole on something that is too small ‘full’ OS’ but large enough to be out of sync with smartphones.
Get over to the other side if you want to know about the latest in netbooks.

There was a time, not too long ago, when smartphones meant bulky phones with QWERTY keypads, clumsy UI, limited features and sky-high price tags. Not much has changed on the price tag side but the bulk is considerably lower now and the various UIs on the market are going from great to greater. Plus the features have pretty much hit the other side of limited in this category. So I thought it right to start a weekly section that cuts through all the noise and brings you the main stories that you need to hear.

HTC is really stepping it up these days. After several long weeks of speculations, rumors, spy shots and general gossip, the company has finally made the HTC Leo official. Only, it is not called the Leo, it is called the HD2. The HD2 is a large phone and I rather like it for that. This actually more MID and less smarthphone once you take a close look at it.
But there is this one thing that everyone is really ga-ga over — a 4.3inch capacitive touchscreen. I have been watching the hands on videos (find one on the other side) and it looks mighty decent. The responsiveness is quite good with 9 out of 10 touches doing what the user intended to do. That 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor sure is working its charms on the phone.
And just as you thought you would settle down and read all about the Leo, there is a new animal on the block and it’s a fantastic beast this time round. I am talking about the rumored Dragon, another device that looks like it will be powered by the Snapdragon. Continue to the other side for details.
