But the question is will they be able to walk the walk? Tablets have been around for about a decade now and still, the iPad is the first ever fully successful attempt at making a tablet that everyone can use. Ironically, the company who really wanted to make the tablet a success is not the one who made the most successful tablet till date — it’s rival is. But when talking about these two giants (Microsoft & Apple), people tend to forget the other companies who have been making tablets in their own unique way. Nokia used to one of those companies but now it is nowhere to be found in this scene.

It seems like Intel will be in attendance at Nokia’s press event at MWC (Mobile World Congress) tomorrow. The invitations that were sent out to the press had both Intel and Nokia’s logo on them, suggesting another joint announcement from the collaborators. Of course, the companies themselves are barely saying anything about the whole affair. The official word is that they will be updating everyone about their relationship status and then Nokia can move on to a solo event about what new thing it has done in recent times. But that is only the official word and that is as good as not saying anything at all.

Look what we have here! A slide that seems to be from some internal meeting at T-Mobile showing off what is essentially the carrier’s internal roadmap of what handsets they will offer through the first quarter of 2010. Do you notice something?
Yeah, me too. It’s a really boringly done slide. Someone should teach them about putting some excitement into PowerPoint presentations. However, the content of the slide kinda makes up for its drab nature. I seem to spy three really interesting phones that are coming up next month.

Now that the excitement around the iPad is settling down and people are passing their final verdicts before they actually get to touch one for real, there is renewed interest in what the new iPhone might bring to the fray. Whilst there are a lot of speculations as to what might be coming for us, there are certain things I believe Apple needs to do if they want to hold on to their lead in the innovation and appeal department. There are also certain things that users would like to see in the iPhone that they already see in other competing phones. So let’s dive right in.

This is good news for both Maemo enthusiasts and Nokia (and I guess the N900 owners too). Mozila has been developing a mobile version of their popular FireFox Internet Browser for quite some time now. Last week, they finally released the final version of this browser, which has so far been known by its code name Fennec (a kind of small Fox, get the pun?). This version is supported on some of the Nokia smartphone devices, including the N900.

This is a project about a man trying and succeeding in his attempt to run the OS X 10.3 version on Nokia’s latest flasgship smartphone device — the N900. Someone should tell people like this that some things are better left alone even if they are possible practically. It is technically possible to each a chocolate chip cookie with hot mustard and cough syrup, doesn’t mean I will do it. Then again, some companies seem to share this philosophy when making new products — because it is possible to make a laptop that is powered by a 300MHz and runs on a semblance of an OS.
However, this was a personal project and seems like the guy had fun, so hats off to his patience. This is the first ever documented attempt and a successful one at that, to boot a full OS X off a smartphone. But if you really want to test your patience, why don’t you try networking Windows Vista with FreeBSD? Or watch a tortoise complete a 100 meter dash? It does make for a fun time lapse video though… of the franken-thing booting up. Yes, it needs heavy editing to show the thing booting up within a tolerable time frame. Know why? ‘Cause it takes 2 whole hours to boot up!
Enjoy the video on the other side.

The Nokia N900 is Nokia’s answer to the whole new-age smartphone trend that has completely changed the way we look at smartphones. This is of course thanks to Apple and their iPhone but instead of using iPhone number one rival Android or their all time favorite Symbian, Nokia chose to go to another mobile Linux OS called Maemo. So the N900 runs Maemo5 and has nifty features that look really cool. But as everyone knows by now — its not the platform or the hardware that makes or breaks today’s smartphones. It is the third-party ecosystem that really decides the fates of such devices. The N900 has been lagging behind in that exact area until now.

There’s a new Nokia handset in the pipeline and it is going by the name of Nokia Mystic. Once you take a good long look at it, you realize why you are confused. We are looking at something that has the typical Nokia QWERTY keypad as seen in hadnsets like the E71 and E72 and also has large buttons on a separate area below the screen. (Image on the other side)
