This was an inevitability ever since newer models started coming out. Intel has finally decided to phase the first generation Atom chips. The ones to go out first are the Atom 230 and Atom 330 chips, the ones that came first. These two chips will be off the market by the end of this month. Intel had designed these for the first wave of low power netbooks and nettops. These saw extensive use and are still on market. They will be replaced by the latest crop of Atom chips from Intel — the Atom D410 and the D510, both of which are Pine Trail generation chips and have Intel GMA 3150 graphics integrated within them.

Asus Uses NVIDIA Optimus In New N71 Notebook [Notebooks]

While the name will remind people of certain fictitious alien robots that change shape, NVIDIA’s Optimus technology is something that works on improving graphics performance on notebooks without straining the battery. The basic premise of this technology is that it switches between integrated and full blown graphics options as required and it does it at a hardware level. This basically means you are not frying your battery while simply editing a text document. Smaller graphics needs are handled by the integrated chip and the games are handled by the dedicated part. Asus has decided to use this technology in their latest consumer multimedia notebook — the N71JV-X1. They still can’t be bothered to come up with names that people can remember. Specs follow.

We are looking into the matter. Read on for specs.

It seems like Intel will be in attendance at Nokia’s press event at MWC (Mobile World Congress) tomorrow. The invitations that were sent out to the press had both Intel and Nokia’s logo on them, suggesting another joint announcement from the collaborators. Of course, the companies themselves are barely saying anything about the whole affair. The official word is that they will be updating everyone about their relationship status and then Nokia can move on to a solo event about what new thing it has done in recent times. But that is only the official word and that is as good as not saying anything at all.

GeekBench Benchmark Showing Next-Gen MacBook Pro With Core i7? [Apple] [Laptops]

February 6 2010 Categorized Under: Laptops Tags; , , , , , , , 2 Commented

Well, we would really like to think so but GeekBench is hardly a place where you verify things and use it as a proof. However, if these are indeed the benchmark results of a new built of MacBook Pros, they are pretty darn good! And besides, the MacBook Pros are quite overdue for a upgrade anyway. I am talking about the 15 inch and 17 inch models of course. And if this is it, boy are we in for a treat.

This is supposed to be the new model because the internal naming of 6,1 for a MacBook Pro doesn’t exist yet. This signifies a major shift in the whole line up.

ARM Stepping It Up Against Intel With Eagle, Bird Puns Galore [Chips]

The grass is as usual greener on the other side for the current leaders of the chip industry. So while mobile mogul ARM is making its way up to make it into the higher echelons of clock speed, Intel is stepping down, reducing everything it can in order to make it into the tiny spaces of low powered mobile devices. So in its latest announcement, ARM Holdings announced that they have three new chip designs coming up that will heighten their current line up to be more effective in the high-end segment of computing. They call these three — Heron, Merlin And Eagle.

Intel Leaks Core i5 MacBooks

This one’s a classic accidental leak or so you think. How a company as big as Intel manages to do this I do not know. But it was their Spanish branch, to cut them some slack here. Here’s what they did: Spanish Apple site Faq-Mac.com spotted a competition advert from Intel Spain that was showing off a Core i5 MacBook Pro as a Grand Prize. Pretty sweet I say!

Happy 2010 everybody! We are entering a new decade and of course it is time to bust out all the lists. This one is about Apple. This is one company that continues to make waves across multiple industries on a fairly regular basis. They have had their duds of course (hello, Apple TV) but their main products have constantly inspired the competition to rethink their plans and catch up. Sometime they just want to copy (Vista) but soon they realize that we are not a lot of 5 year-olds hence really put some effort in (Windows 7). Over all, Apple continues to stay ahead of the pack and make great products. So let’s look at all the great things that Apple has accomplished in the past decade.
