The GLBenchmark database revealed a very interesting new gadget earlier this week. A brand new HTC phone that has never been heard of and has never been seen online. It is called the HTC Glacier and it has scores that will put any smartphone to shame — no matter whether it is the A4 powered iPhone 4 or HTC’s own Snapdragon powered EVO 4G.

The beautiful and vibrant AMOLED display on the HTC Legend
HTC has finally decided to give up on using the AMOLED display that everyone has been raving about and move back to LCD displays. The reason behind this move, as cited by HTC, is the crippling shortages of the AMOLED display which is manufactured by Samsung. But might more here than meets the eye. After all, Samsung has made a strong re-entry in to the mobile phone market with the emerging new-age smartphone wave and HTC is a top player in that market right now.

Thin film speakers are nothing new. They have been around for quite some time now and even at CEATEC last year we saw a company demonstrate very well disguised speakers that could actually have some real use in the public sphere. We have also seen speakers made out of material that behaves like fabric and hence can be made into things like flags (look at the video after this). So HTC’s patent might seem like impossible to grant because they are not the first. However, their patent is actually about the mass production of a certain kind of thin film speakers.

Yes yes, I know this is not news anymore. The whole tech industry is tripping on the same pill. I reported about Nokia doing it last and then we hardly had any evidence. But this time we have at least a real possibility that HTC is going to do it. They have released a very interesting patent showing a foldable tablet.

There’s this really interesting porting attempt going on at that XDA Dev forum. A dev there is trying to port the X10 to the HTC Magic. Since the two Android implementations are almost as different as can be, it is surely proving to be hard work for the dev. He himself confesses that nothing works but this 1.6 Donut port that he is doing is extremely fast and he even posted a video.

HTC Desire is indeed extremely desirable. It is fast, it is sleek and it has a stealth color. However, not everyone is a fan of the dark charcoal color and wish for something that is not as dark. HTC seems to have thought of it already. A Dutch carrier called BelCompany (nothing to do with Ma Bel probably) is offering the options of a silver HTC Desire and is claiming it to be an exclusive from them.

CTIA is coming up and that means a slew of new gadgets are about to come out. And if the rumor mill has to be taken seriously, HTC & Sprint will announce the HTC Supersonic — that one that apparently has WiMAX built in — sometime next week. It is supposed to be an Android 2.1 device with a 4.3inch display.
