Motorola Droid X has been on the radar for tech industry sky watchers for a long time now. It has been a secret so badly kept that we actually knew everything about it way before it was released. We even had hands-on videos of it before it became officially available for such things. Nevertheless, it is finally official and is here for everyone to bask in its newfound speed and extra-large display size. Not to mention quite a few other great features. Motorola seems to be on the right track with the whole Droid series, even though the ‘Droid Does’ campaign is getting a bit tired. Some campaigns are just not meant to run for three successive generations of a product. So excluding that, I’d say the new Droid is going to be a tough player in the higher echelons of the smartphone market.

Samsung has finally made it official. They have an Android tablet and they are calling it the Galaxy Tab. It is not going to run the standard Android it seems but a home-built UI made by Samsung. But the most striking part of the whole deal is that the tablet actually looks very similar to Apple’s iPad.

Viliv has been one of those companies who have been consistently bringing out tablet devices. Sadly, they have also been a company who have been consistently bringing out mostly mediocre tablet devices to the market. They have been pretty dedicated to the cause since much before this whole tablet craze hit but their products have failed to inspire much excitement in consumers. But just like with smartphone makers, that is set to change now that they are using Android. And the Viliv X10 might be their best work so far.

Yes, Motorola has been bitten by a form-factor bug and hence they have started making handsets of all kinds of form factors possible. They were possibly the first to make the really thin (and often useless) form factor popular with their RAZR series. Then they fizzles out. And then Android happened and they sizzled back for good with Motorola Droid. Then they had that BackFlip phone to to start off with this form-factor play. Now they have a corner rotating phone called the Flipout.

Last year, we all saw the Meizu M8, dismissed it as yet another iPhone copy from China and moved on with our lives. But it seems like Meizu did not that that rejection lying down. Even then the M8 was seen as being backed up by a rather well made marketing campaign, which is really not common for knocked off phones. This year, Meizu is all set to bring out the successor to the M8 — logically called the M9. And it seems like they have quite a phone on their hands.

Earlier this month, Spring notified all its customers that it is still working on bringing the Android 2.1 upgrade to its Android devices, which are the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment. Although it isn’t as if they have overshot their projected time frame already, the notification hinted at delays in the roll out. It talks of issues that apparently were expected to be resolved sooner than this but still persist.

If you have chosen to buy a locked Nexus One Android phone from a carrier like T-Mobile, you are in for some hard time if you cancel prior to “120 days of continuous wireless service”. If you cancel before 4 months from the date of activation (presumably) you are going have to pay cancellation fees. And those fees are pretty hefty too. You will have to pay up the difference between the price you paid for your subsidized unit and the full retail price of the unlocked and unsubsidized Nexus One. That means if you have bought it for $179, you will end up paying $350 as cancellation. So far so fair but it gets worse.

Google has finally made the Nexus One official — the most hyped and leaked Android phone ever. I mean if multiple tech blogs get out full hands-on reviews before the official launch or announcement, you haven’t done a good job of keeping the thing secret. In fact, I don’t think Google tried very hard. Clearly, they have no clue how the hype game works.
As a result, what could’ve been a really great release event with lots of excitement became just another press event without much excitement. Now don’t get me wrong, the Nexus One truly is the best Android phone till date but I couldn’t manage to remain excited about through what must’ve been over a month’s time. It wasn’t new when it was announced and nothing ground-breakingly new announced about at the even either. So overall I am not very happy with how Google handled this release. With that out of my system, let’s take a look at the phone itself.

We halt the usual phone round up to bring you a collective update about everything that we know so far about the Nexus One phone plus some. The Nexus One is Google’s latest mega project and people have go so far as to call it the new iPhone. Whilst I won’t to go so far, especially because the latest iPhone update is coming up soon, I do think that this is going to be the definitive Android phone that will rule the first year of the new decade. Get to the other side and get updated.

It turns out that TechCrunch and Arrington were actually right! And let’s face it, we did want to be true. Yes, the Google phone is alive and well. Google has just confirmed that they do have an Android device in distribution amongst employees all over the world. Although, if you read their post you won’t find much to talk about.
