Sony has launched a slew of new Vaios this week and they rounded up the launching spree with new Vaio CW series notebooks. There was the highly anticipated Vaio X, that caused a bit of disappointment when it finally came out. And then there was the Vaio L that looks like a really good option for those who want a nice little HTPC package that can be their main entertainment machine. The X

The Vaio X was seen only last month when it was not doing anything much and Sony was tight-lipped about what was powering it. Now the details are finally out. The Vaio X is being touted as the lightest notebook in the market with its light but strong carbon-fiber chassis. Sony had also promised all day battery life. Both of these promises have been kept but not in the way that you would like.

Sony includes two battery packs with the device. One is for 3 hours and it helps the notebook become the lightest one around. On the other hand, for all day computing you will need the other battery pack that has an extended 14 hour battery life. But with that you will have to live with a bulky battery that sticks out of the chassis and raises the laptop off whatever surface it’s on.

Other than that, the specs (ULV Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD) are quite alright for the $1300 price tag. It’s up for pre-order right now.

The L

The Vaio L series has been around since earlier this year and now we have the Vaio L 1080p. As you might guess from the name, this is an all-in-one like the Asus Eee Top series but with a 24inch widescreen HD panel with a WUXGA 1920×1080 display. The brilliant display is also multitouch, so it takes advantage of the touch capabilities of the Windows 7. Plus Sony’s own DVR software also works great that way.

You can include a Blu-Ray drive and a TV tuner too. With those in place, this becomes the ultimate entertainment PC with its quad core processor, 1TB storage and oodles of RAM. The price starts around $1300.

The CWs

The Vaio CW series that was released today is a colorful line of Vaios that replace the old CS series. It has flat style, isolated keys that early testers report are really good. They are geared towards the mass market and focus on portability. The 14inch screen can display a resolution of 1366×768. They have the usual slew of ports along with the now-common HDMI port.

Prices have not been announced but they will be available with Windows 7 on October 22^nd.
