The GDC (Games Developer Conference) is an extremely important conference for game developers everywhere. It has a long-ish history of holding these conferences for covering every possible aspect of game development for all conceivable platforms. They usually hold two days of ‘Summits’ before the main set of keynote addresses and other things start happening. Within those summits, there is the GDC Mobile summit which discusses every mobile platform there is. This included the iPhone up until the last time. But this year they have dedicated an entire summit to the iPhone, making it clear that the platform is now a major mobile gaming platform.

Asus has quietly put on two ION 2 systems on display at this year’s CeBit. One is an Eee PC model and the other is an Eee Top model. Needless to say that Asus will competing directly with Acer now, thanks to these upgrades and the systems do look promising. At least on paper they do. No has gotten them benchmarked yet.

HiVision is a Chinese company that has a strange tendency — they usually never offer their products outside China but they often turn up at international trade shows and show off really cheap versions of the latest computer trends. So it should come as no surprise to anyone reading this that they have a really cheap tablet on display at CeBit this year.

It seems like Intel will be in attendance at Nokia’s press event at MWC (Mobile World Congress) tomorrow. The invitations that were sent out to the press had both Intel and Nokia’s logo on them, suggesting another joint announcement from the collaborators. Of course, the companies themselves are barely saying anything about the whole affair. The official word is that they will be updating everyone about their relationship status and then Nokia can move on to a solo event about what new thing it has done in recent times. But that is only the official word and that is as good as not saying anything at all.

Samsung has finally launched the Bada mobile OS and the first ever phone to run on it at the Mobile World Congress happening at Barcelona, Spain right now. The phone is called Wave, just as the rumors said it was. Officially it is the Wave S8500 — the first phone to have the Bada OS. As a piece of a hardware, it is easy to see that it is pretty good. But when it comes to the OS, opinions don’t seem to differ much amongst the attendees. The general vibe is ‘meh’ and worse. But that doesn’t mean that the phone does not have potential. Anything that has that great a screen is bound to have some potential!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen — we all saw this one coming from miles away. iPad was the most talked about thing at this year’s MacWorld and Apple wasn’t even there. Not only that, the iPad is not even available for purchase yet. However, these are probably the things that give it the mystical value that it seems to have. In fact, we can only experience it through the few select people who got to touch it and the many people who developing or making accessories for it. The latter two were aplenty at MacWorld, as is only to be expected.

Apple is probably one of most watched companies in the current tech industry. After taking the mobile phone industry completely by storm and making another iTunes (Music) Store success story out of it, the bystanders and the competitors have become wiser now — Apple is definitely up to something. A lot of things in fact, if all the rumors are to be believed. But since they can’t all be believed, here’s your distilled dose of what 2010 is expected to be like for Apple.

Apple’s secrecy is legendary by now. They are so good that other companies should probably learn from them.  Thanks to this obsessive need for secrecy, we hardly know anything about what Apple has got cooking in their labs. So we subsist on sifting through rumors. This of course generates unimaginable hype for Apple but they are a company that has perfected the art of under-promising and over-delivering. From profit projections to devices, they do it every time. So we are always in a dilemma about how much to stretch our imagination.

I will try to keep mine on a tight leash for the following list and give you the things that I think Apple is really about to do.
