Last year when Apple received a lot of enthusiastic buyers for their 27″ iMac models, it soon disappointed them with the discovery of a serious problem in the displays of the 27inch iMac displays. The display has a flickering issue which was put down to Flash at that point. Apple acknowledged the problem at that ponint and issued a fix that was to cure this. However, that did not work and the problem persists. Now for some more bad news.
Some insider sources of HardMac report that Apple has halted the production of more 27″ iMac models because a proper fix is yet to be found for this problem. The display panel turns yellowish and starts to flicker and nothing so far has been able to fix it. The customers who have filed complaints with Apple care have got the reply that they issue is a known one and that a fix was on the way.
In the meantime, there’s more talks that the customer support teams have been instructed to tell people that their jaundiced displays can be replaced but that has to wait for at least 3 weeks from now. TUAW points out that there is a 3 week shipping delay as it is on the new 27″ iMacs, so those of you who are planning to buy a new one — don’t. Just wait out this month and see how things pan out.
MacRumors on the other hand said that many of their readers have reported their delayed 27inch orders getting confirmations for a mid-February delivery. So what we are hearing could be a delayed information leak and the product may already be back on the production line.
