Apple 27″ iMac Display Problems Cured For Many, Persist For Some [Apple]

Display problems on the new 27″ iMacs have been plaguing Apple ever since the first wave of orders were shipped. Some of the displays turn a yellowish tint, some of the them flicker and some apparently are plagued by both. Apple did ship a software update that was supposed to fix the problem but it did not fix the problems for everybody, especially the yellow tint that is possibly a manufacturing defect. Now Apple has another update out that has cured the problem for most people except a handful of people who are still complaining. And if certain news sources are to be believed, help is not coming any time soon.

Despite the fact that Apple would really like to tell you about how excited customers are about the 27″ iMacs and how they can’t ship enough of them, there have been reports of Apple stopping production of the 27″ iMacs till the problem was fixed. Apple has however refuted this repeatedly and it reiterated this point in an interview with WSJ. So signals are definitely conflicting.

However, the 3 weeks delay that was the bane of 27″ iMac orders has now been shortened to 2 weeks with some users reporting earlier than expected shipping dates. In the meantime, the chaotic support page for 27″ iMac display problems on Apple’ discussions forum did reflect the fact that most of the problematic 27″ iMac displays were fixed by the latest update that Apple pushed out. But it also showed that there are still few who were facing problems.

An unnamed Apple Reseller of some sort from the UK has told Gizmodo that there aren’t enough units in all of Europe to remedy the situation. Hence, it seems like more delays are to be expected before this gets fixed. Hold on folks, Apple will definitely clean up its act before the iPad launches. Also, since Dell models with the same screen are also suffering from the tinting problem, it seems like OEM L.G. is to be blamed for this.
