Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X3, the rumored Android phone that is supposed to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, is in the news again. The company has posted this event flyer and as you can see, it has no details about what this is going to be.

Whenever a company does this, they are usually hoping to wow the audience and hence they intentionally have a bare invitation. But that one line about the thing being magical is surely a sign that they are hoping it to be something pretty big.

If this is indeed an Android phone (and we all hope it will be), this will be the first Android phone from Sony Ericsson. Other than the rumors and the UI video, there is another thing that makes us think it will be running Android.

SE announced earlier this year that the next XPERIA might not be running Windows Mobile. That is as good as saying “it might be running Android” because there is nowhere else to go. That is if they want to remain competitive and relevant in the industry.

Forgive our enthusiasm but the current smartphone world has exactly two sides – iPhone and Android. I will risk a blanket statement and say – none of the others have been able to catch up so far. BlackBerry OS 5.0 doesn’t cut it much. Symbian is definitely aging. WebOS has gone back into the shadows. Maemo is not out yet and Moblin is not out of the labs yet. As for Windows Mobile 6.5 – that’s the OS SE doesn’t want to use!

Anyway, if you want a comprehensive brush up on what we know so far about the XPERIA, you should go to gHacks.net where I posted extensively on the topic. [read]
