That seems to be the question on Microsoft’s marketing department’s mind right now. The previous Zune HD prices were already fairly low. At $220 for the 16GB model and $290 for the 32GB model, things weren’t all that bad. Now, the 16GB mode is lower by $30 at $190 and the 32Gb model is lowerd by $40 at $250. So now, will you buy one or just go for an iPod Touch?

iRiver is a company that is known for their well-designed PMPs that also sound pretty good. Despite of that, I would say that they haven’t always been great a riding the first wave of the latest trends as they hit. But now, with their K1 SmartHD PMP, they might be riding two waves at once. One is obviously HD — the world of gadgets is hi-def. If they can’t show it on their tiny screens, they will still render it for your HDTV via HDMI. The other is, for PMPs, support for the Matroska or the MKV format as it is popularly referred.

When it comes to personal music listening experience there are few devices that come close to Apple iPod. It remains the de facto media player for the audiophiles. However, for those who do not like the device or want more features in their media player than iPod can offer, may consider an alternative like the Cowon iAudio 9. The company has pitted the device against the iPod Nano. It is similar to Nano in dimension and offers equal storage capacity as well. The 16GB model is priced at $169 while the 8 GB model is available for $129.

While the iPod continues to be one of the most desirable personal media players, a grudge that many iPod users have voiced is about the bundled earphones. There are a lot of iPhone and iPod users out there who prefer using the headsets manufactured by third party brands. While there are plenty of affordable headsets out there, Bose has launched an in ear headphone for the audiophiles who want unparalleled aural experience. The Bose mobile in-ear set is comfortable to use and it is ergonomic as well.

With its cult media player named iPod Apple redefined personal music experience a few years back. Since its inception, the iPod has seen several revamps and incarnations. With each upgrade the media player has become more trendy, feature rich and desirable among audiophiles. In its recent bid to trounce the rival brands Apple has introduced a new version of iPod Nano, its USP being the bundled Video Camera. It retains the slimline design of earlier generations while packing in a plethora of new features.

… it is the only direct competitor in the market. Others are just way too far behind in the race when it comes to competing with Apple. In the past, the Zune has lived in almost anonymity. Brand recognition was terrible (still isn’t all that good) and the iPod simply became the name to describe small, personal media players. Apple practically created this market for others to follow.
The past is past now and having killed every other Zune, Microsoft has put out the singularly greatest Zune ever – the Zune HD. Get to the other side for the meat.
