Light Peak has been off the radar for quite some time now, buried underneath a pile of iPad and iPhone news. But now it has shown its pretty fiber optic head again. This time though, there are no FrankenMac computers involved. Kevin Kahn has predicted that the Light Peak Fiber optic technology might go mainstream as fast as early 2011.

In a time when 100Mb/s makes people talk about what they will do with all that bandwidth (never mind that some European and Asian Countries already think nothing of it), here’s a report that details the growth of broadband over fiber over the next two decades. Analyst firm Analysys Mason was commissioned by the UK telecom regulator Ofcom to do an in depth study in to the future of Fiber and that has generated a report that suggests this outcome [PDF link]. The results are pretty clear — depending on what kind of a network is being used, end users will be able to access either a maximum of 10Gbps or 100Gbps. In both cases, the gateway of the provider will be 100Gbps. What you get will depend on what the ISP was feeling like when they built their network — long term or short term.

Intel has been making the headlines for various reasons ever since this year’s IDF happened. The things showed off at the annual event have the industry still buzzing with the various developments around them. Of course, that is what Intel had hoped for. Moblin has been on and off the news for the past week or two thanks to Dell and others. Light Peak on the other hand has been getting a lot of attention due to the Apple connection. Intel has come in to the focus once again but in a rather indirect manner after NVIDIA announced that they are ‘postponing’ the development of new chipsets. Read all about it on the other side.

The rumors, they have been flying thick as usual. Apparently there was a lot more to Intel‘s Light Peak presentation than meets the eye. Then, there is news that Apple is readying a new line of iMacs and MacBooks for (almost) immediate release. Apparently the next Apple release is much closer than we all think. Thanks to two dedicated tech-blogs, I bring you news from the other world where secrecy is a way of life and folks are regularly burdened with 100-page NDAs in exchange for a glimpse in to the shiny new future. Well, there’s no NDA between you and the other side this time, so click away to read more.

9.09.09 was more or less dominated by Apple’s Yerba Buena, SF event and hence, predictably, a lot of things that otherwise would’ve been reported properly got buried under the Macavalanche. You have been playing catch-up with all the new releases and you should be because not everything was revealed at event presentations. There are a lot of small things that you should know about (and things that I will cover in my 5-gen iPod Nano review
). So now that the crazy hype has finally worn off, here are six things that you should know about as an avid Otaku Gadgets reader.

There’s a hidden tech geek in all of us that yearns to be free. Free from storage limitations, from bad coding, from closed source and from wires. Wires are constantly tying you down, literally. You can only move a few inches before you risk yanking the cable and upsetting hundreds, may be thousands of dollars worth of gear.
Thankfully, wireless products just keep on getting better and better as the days go by. Bluetooth used to be really hot a few years back. It still is desirable but with even mobile devices getting WLAN and WiFi now, the wireless game is about to change considerably. Wireless HIDs (Human Interface Devices) are also getting better with better range and lower errors.
Today we look at two very different wireless devices that are united by a common underlying principle – ease of use. One is the Logitech M505 Wireless Mouse and the other is the Asus RT-N13U router. If you have been looking for a wireless mouse and/or an easy to setup home/office router/printer server or are just plain curious with time to kill, read on.
