As if banning Flash on the iPhone was not enough, Apple is now working on a Flash alternative that will allow rich web applications to be built. Apple’s alternative is called Gianduia. The name is from an Italian hazelnut chocolate. The connection? Gianduia is basically a combination of browser-side Cocoa with CoreData along with WebObjects and JavaScript. At least that is is how one developer described it in his tweet.

Okay, so it is not like Google has become self aware (yet) and seized all the leading research in bionic machinery but if it did, this new Bionic arm would look like a pretty tasty piece of technology to acquire. This is an advanced version of Touch Bionic’s i-Limb prosthetic hand and it has some very special features to set itself apart from the previous generation. For one thing, it can lift 200 pounds, if that is what it take to tickle your fancy.

Thin film speakers are nothing new. They have been around for quite some time now and even at CEATEC last year we saw a company demonstrate very well disguised speakers that could actually have some real use in the public sphere. We have also seen speakers made out of material that behaves like fabric and hence can be made into things like flags (look at the video after this). So HTC’s patent might seem like impossible to grant because they are not the first. However, their patent is actually about the mass production of a certain kind of thin film speakers.

Even though it has not been released yet and there isn’t really a firm release date on the horizon, it seems like Jetway is soon to become one of the first companies to adopt and use Intel’s two new Atom chips — the Atom D525 and the Atom D425 Both of these chips are targeted at desktop use and have compatibility for newer standards like DDR3.

There’s a time for action and there’s a time for selling your company to the highest bidder. For Palm, both those times have come an gone. They have had there chance and they did something nice — WebOS — but they didn’t quite get everything right. They made the fatal mistake of underestimating that market and hence, they got to where they are now – they have recently been acquired by HP. Rumors suggested this for a long time and there was also rumor that Asus and Dell tried to pitch in but didn’t quite make it.

Here’s more news from the Intel side of the world. They have been holding their Developers Forum event in Beijing and took the opportunity to give the first live demoes of the MeeGo mobile OS. For those of you with poor memory, let me remind you that this is a joint venture between Nokia and Intel, which was announced at this year’s MWC (Mobile World Congress). Both companies dropped further development of their own mobile OS’ (Moblin and Maemo 5) and created a common platform instead.

There’s nothing like a hi-tech car to get people interested in your ride. Whilst we have a seen a lot of convincing and not-so convincing such contraption in the movies, we are fast moving towards a future where a lot of those things will become regular sights. One of them is the heads up display for cars. HuD’s themselves are nothing new. They have been around for a while, displaying crucial information for drivers so that they don’t have to look down.
