Dell, a leading computer maker known mainly for its high end laptop and desktop PCs, is trying to break new grounds in the fast evolving ultraportable computing segment. Its Inspiron and Studio range of laptops are quite popular with IT professionals and executives on the move. To counter the competition from rivals like HP and Toshiba and broaden its customer base Dell has launched a rugged ultraportable laptop with a touch screen. Named as the Latitude XT2 XFR, the model promises smooth operation in rough weather conditions and extreme durability.

Asus is a company that is known for making feature packed and powerful computer hardware peripherals aimed at gamers and demanding users. It has a range of mid and high range motherboards and graphics cards in its kitty. In a latest move to woo a majority of gaming and multimedia users, Asus has launched high end Intel chipset based motherboard with support for the upcoming SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard. The model is named P7DP55DE-E Premium and it falls under Asus’s Xtreme Design range.

For reasons that are quite understandable, manufacturers of smaller portable computers have really taken to making Android devices. The OS is fast, reliable and maintained by an ace-team of coders and engineers. But with the Chrome OS in the works, I wonder how Google feels about this entire business. Nonetheless, we now have another company jumping into the boat after Dell disappointed with their dual-booting D250 (Window 7-Android).

I have already posted about the product launch event that Sony Ericsson is going to hold on November 3. If you have missed it, you can read about it here. It has an unusual amount of buzz surrounding it because everyone expects it to be the SE Rachael/X3/X10. Those are the names of a rumored Sony Ericsson phone that is going to follow in the XPERIA line of devices and will have the Android OS as its OS. We have all heard the saying ‘All that glitters is not gold’. In the world of geeks, cool and sleek looking computers are almost synonymous with Macs.
