Asus G51VX-A1: A New Weapon for the Republic of Gamers

August 28 2009 Categorized Under: Laptops Tags; , , , , , , , , , , , , , , 2 Commented

notebook-asus-g51vx-a1 a really robust gaming machineAsus has shown an interest in making gaming rigs and its offerings so far have been fairly decent. Asus created the Republic of Gamers line of computers quite some time back. This series focuses on the sheer power required for high-end gaming and also on the aesthetics preferred by gamers. When I say aesthetics, do realize that I am mainly referring to cool graphics and backlit decals. Of course, I totally fall for those exact things myself so I do understand why things like AlienFX from Alienware matter as much as they do (and why people shudder when they see AlienFX on the Dell XPS line).

The new Asus G51VX-A1 is part of the Republic of Gamers line of machines and hence has the RoG logo displayed prominently on the lid right under the Asus logo. It has nice graphics (in both senses) and a great build quality. However, if you want a decent configuration for gaming, you will have to fork out sums to the tune of $1,700. Does that sound like your budget exactly? Read on to find out for yourself.

Nokia Booklet 3G: Forerunner? Game Changer? Utter Blah? You be the Judge

August 26 2009 Categorized Under: Laptops, netbooks Tags; , , , , , , , , , , , 4 Commented

Nokia-Booklet-3G-HDMI it has oneWhen Nokia and Intel tied up a few months back, there was little doubt in a lot of minds that the offspring of this alliance would be something that is not a typical Nokia mobile phone. Of course, Intel does not, cannot and will not have anything to do with mobile phones in for the time being. That is mainly because they do not have something that can really cut it for the mobile handset market. Even though Atom is a low power-consuming chip, the point has been made again and again that they are nowhere near chips like the ones from ARM. ARM chips are the ones that are used on the iPhone.

Finally, about one day ago, Nokia made the announcement of the first love child between Nokia and Intel – the Booklet 3G. If you look at the Booklet 3G you will probably think that it is just another netbook, when in reality it is so much more. It is something that really has the potential to turn the mobile industry on its head. It might also quietly leave through the backdoor and never come back again. Whatever happens, the Booklet 3G stands publicly announced and it is now just a waiting game for most people. In the mean time, quench your thirst for tech news by hitting Read more.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX1: A Small Thing of Power

August 25 2009 Categorized Under: Digital Cameras Tags; , , , , , , , , , , one Commented

panasonic-dmc-zx1-camera - make something up here, I cannot think of today!

The saying that goes “good things come in small packages” does not always hold true you see. Take Chihuahuas for example. You can take one up as a pet if you want to tear out your hair in frustration. Or you can gift one to your enemy. Likewise, compact digital cameras are always heartbreakingly underpowered and lack luster. They do not do much and they certainly are not powerful.

It is then, quite surprising that the Panasonic Lumix should turn out to be such a gem amongst them. Sizing up at 12.1 megapixels, it is worthy addition to the award-wining Lumix series from Panasonic. The DMC-ZX1 really pushes the envelope when it comes to expectations from a compact digital camera. Read on to find out more.

dell-studio-14z - nice little bugger

The Dell Studio 14z is the perfect laptop for students who want something solid below $1000. The Lenovo G550 -A good looking chap! The Lenovo G550 is a great laptop if you want to go for something that is functional and affordable. The G530, its previous version, was quite well received. It remains to be seen how well the masses react to its update.
